Women
IFSI recruits and trains part-time peer educators from the Cambodian, Chinese, Filipino, Laotian, South Asian and Vietnamese communities of Philadelphia to increase HIV awareness among Asian women by providing HIV information to them, and to serve as their link to community programs and resources, including PHACE house parties. This outreach work is venue based, conducted in key community sites, where Asian women congregate, such as homes, schools, family business settings, churches, temples, supermarkets, laundromats, and community centers.
HIV prevention information (e.g., brochures, calendars, and verbal guidance) is presented in the primary language of all of the above noted Asian communities and with culturally appropriate approaches to relevant topics, including high risk activities. |
