YFDP Services

 

IFSI’s Youth and Family Development Program (YFDP) is designed to provide a community-based alternative to institutionalization of adjudicated delinquent youth, and to assist at-risk youth to avoid involvement with the Juvenile Justice System.

 

YFDP provides enrichment activities and support services for youth who are 10 –17 years old.

 

Enrichment Activities offered…

  • African drumming

  • piano lessons

  • saxophone ensemble

  • cultural music history classes

  • dance  -- ballet, jazz, modern, tap

  • martial arts

  • recreational and athletic activities

  • chess practice and competitions

  • arts and crafts

  • culinary lessons

  • computer education

  • youth entrepreneurial opportunities

 

Support Services offered…

  • tutoring and homework assistance

  • one on one and group counseling/guidance mentoring

  • life skills and health promotion workshops

  • stress and anger management

  • conflict resolution

  • guest speakers

  • educational trips

 

YFDP provides youth with the necessary skills they need for a healthy mind, healthy body and healthy outlook to help fight the negative influences and behaviors that place them in dangerous situations.

Eligibility

 

Youth must meet the following eligibility criteria to be considered for admission to the program:

  1. Youth who are 10 – 17 years old and interested in becoming involved in enrichment activities and obtaining support services.  This includes adjudicated delinquent youth, or youth at-risk for delinquency.

  2. Youth who are not in need of psychiatric treatment.

  3. Youth who express motivation to correct behavior and learn.

  4. Parent/guardian involvement and commitment.
